Connecting Other Email Providers to Slack with IMAP

If you have an email address that you want to connect to Slack with SharedInbox, but your email is hosted with an email provider other than Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo, you can easily set up your email using IMAP.

Steps to Connect an Email to Slack using IMAP #

1. Go to the Connect an Email page or click Connect+ from the dashboard sidebar.
2. Select the Other (IMAP) icon on the Select your email provider page
   
3. Add your email information
   
   On the Connect Your Email to Slack page, add the following info and then click Next >.
   
   • Account name
     Your sender name. Typically your name, or a name for the shared email, for example, “Support” or “Customer Service”.
   • Gmail or Google Workspace Email
     The email address you’re connecting to Slack.
   • Select a Slack Channel for this inbox
     This is the Slack channel where you’ll manage your email! You’ll receive incoming email in this channel, and be able to reply/reply all, or compose new emails, all from this channel.
     It can be a private or public Slack channel. For private channels, note you’ll need to also invite the @SharedInbox app to the channel (more info here).
4. On the next Setup page, enter your IMAP and SMTP server information and email credentials
   
   Enter the following info and then click the SETUP > button.
   • Username
     Typically the email address you are setting up (unless your email provider has a different username for login).
   • Password
     Your email account password.
   • Incoming [IMAP] server
     The address of the IMAP server, where SharedInbox will fetch incoming mail from. You can usually find the server address from your email or hosting provider’s docs, or by contacting them. The port is commonly 993, unless your provider specifies otherwise.
   • Outgoing [SMTP] server
     The address of the SMTP server, where SharedInbox will send your outgoing email (new emails or replies from Slack) through. You can usually find the server address from your email or hosting provider’s docs, or by contacting them. The port is commonly 25, unless your provider specifies otherwise.
5. After clicking the SETUP > button, you’re good to go and should see a page like this:
   
   
   Now jump over to Slack and start managing your email!
